The
most common and the most burning problem in the construction industry
since the beginning of the civilisation has been and is, to fight the
water; though man has an inevitable continuous requirement of water,
to handle water has always been a tricky job.
There goes a saying:
“If
there is, water finds its way to dissipate all the hydrostatic
pressure it holds.”
In
simple words the construction process looks very simple, but in
practical is so complicated at micro level
to control the behavior of the individual component of a structure, in
most of the cases it is even difficult to predict the behavior of
these components at minute levels. The most unfortunate part is, there
are not many kind of instruments available to accurately measure the
behavior of structural element in specific conditions and if there are
some, they are very uneconomic.
Man
has been fighting the seepage problem since ages and it is this era
that some considerable results are received in the field of water
proofing. In new construction the new technology and the water
proofing chemicals available make a good combination to handle the
water in the best possible manner.
FAIRMATE,
with the in-depth field experience of Technical applicators, customer
feed back, guidance of the team of consultants and the technological
know-how provided by the overseas principals, has developed a reliable
system to handle water seepage and percolation problems to its best
and still help to handle water for its good purpose.
The
product information and the mode of application is briefed under:
PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
WATER
GUARD A
WATERGUARD
A is a two component polymer + cement based system, which has micro
fillers to compensate for the shrinkage easily brush applied on
cleaned concrete or plastered surface. The mix penetrates into the
open pores of surface and sets into them, thus closing the gaps. The
filler material compensates for the shrinkage of the cement and so the
pores are properly closed, and do not allow the water to seep in. This
product does not have capacity to resist the hydrostatic pressure. So
it should be used in conjunction with WATERGUARD WM.
WATERGUARD
WM (F)
WATERGUARD
WM is a prepacked cementitious water proofing render, which is
trowelled on as a 10 to 15 mm thick screed, normally used for
sustaining hydrostatic load, though useful for all kind of water
proofing jobs.
WATERGUARD
CE
WATERGUARD
CE is a two pack, solvent free, flexible, high build, coaltar modified
epoxy resin system, designed to provide water and chemical resistance,
together with anti erosion characteristics and long term durability.
WATERGUARD
EP
WATERGUARD
EP is a two part solvent free, epoxy resin based system, with
exceptional thermal expansion contraction characteristics. It forms a
hard, tough smooth and glossy film coating over the surface.
PROCEDURE
The
most appropriate procedure, which successfully adopted in many sites,
is briefed as under:
1.
Prepare the surface by wire brush cleaning or pneumatic
cleaning.
2.
Wet the surface with potable water.
3.
Prepare the mix of WATERGUARD A and WATERGUARD WM (F) in
sufficient quantity so as to
suit the manpower capacity
at work.
4.
Apply one coat of WATERGUARD A immediately followed by 10 mm to
15-mm thick
WATERGUARD WM(F) screed to
smooth finish as mentioned in the application manual of the
product.
5.
Allow undisturbed set drying for 24 hrs.
6.
A)
For Potable Water Applications: If the surface has to contain
potable water as in the case
of water tanks, apply two coats of WATERGUARD EP.
B)
For Terrace Gardening Applications: In cases of terrace
gardening where the sub surface
is prone to attack of urea and mild chemicals along with water, apply
one coat of
WATERGUARD CE and allow to set for 24 hrs.
C)
For General
Applications: In all other cases apply one coat of WATERGUARD A and
allow to set for 24 hrs.
